SM Cares, DSAPI promote inclusion, acceptance through Down Syndrome education

SM Cares and Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) recently held a seminar with the aim of educating people on Down Syndrome as part of their goal of promoting better inclusion and acceptance for individuals living with the condition. The seminar was held last October 19 at SM City Sucat in Paranaque City.

Titled “Understanding Down Syndrome: A Sensitivity Seminar,” the seminar was designed to educate participants about Down Syndrome, while promoting sensitivity and understanding, and supporting families and individuals living with the condition.

During the seminar, the experts facilitated lectures on various topics including vital information about medical and developmental issues and concerns related to Down Syndrome, as well as hands-on presentations on physical and behavioral management, and speech therapies for people with the condition, to name a few.

As a long-time partner of DSAPI, SM Cares also envisions a world where people with Down Syndrome can live in a society that is inclusive, where people respect each other regardless of their ability or disability. Through the seminar, SM Cares wants to reiterate its commitment to creating a warm and welcoming environment for people with disabilities including those with Down Syndrome, in line with SM Supermalls’ promise of being a mall for all.

SM Cares is the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, supporting initiatives focused on communities and the environment. Its advocacies include Programs for the Environment, Persons with Disabilities, Women & Breastfeeding Mothers, Children & Youth, Senior Citizens, and the SM Bike-friendly initiative.
