“IF NOT NOW, WHEN?” INSPIRATIONAL BLESS LACAP URGES FILIPINOS TO JOIN HER AT 2027 SINGAPORE T100 TRIATHLON

Bless Lacap, a Filipina who lives in Singapore, is calling on her fellow Filipinos to stop waiting for the “right time” to try the 2027 Singapore T100 Triathlon weekend and join her on 10-11 April.

Whilst the weekend of swim, bike and run is headlined by the world’s best triathletes racing around the Lion City on a live global broadcast beamed to 195 markets around the world, it also hosts a selection of amateur triathlon and duathlon races that cater for all ages and abilities.

Lacap has dived right in and signed up for the signature T100 races that includes a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.

“I am the breadwinner of my family in the Philippines and a single mom. I’ve always prioritized the needs of others above my own,” said the 40-year-old Lacap. “But when I saw T100 in my feed earlier this year, something stirred in me. I signed up for the early bird, though I hesitated because I knew it would demand not just registration fees, but also time, energy, and yes, money.”

“Then I asked myself: if not now, when? When I’m old? When I finally have extra money? The truth is, that moment may never come at all. That realization changed everything. I understood that choosing myself is not selfish, it’s essential. Spending for me is not a luxury, it’s an investment. It’s necessary. It’s worth it. So here I am, taking this step, not just for me but to show my family and others that investing in yourself is also an act of love and courage.”

The fifth edition of the Professional Triathletes Organisation’s Singapore triathlon weekend returns on 10-11 April next year, as part of a new Triathlon World Tour which has now grown to more than 48 events worldwide and is part of the PTO’s mission, along with World Triathlon, to transform the sport and create one unified brand and competition structure – designed to make it as simple and engaging as possible for everybody to understand and get involved in the sport.

Just a short flight from Manila, more than 700 Filipinos have taken part over the last four years in an event that gives participants a unique opportunity to swim in Marina Bay and cycle and run on closed roads around the city’s financial hub, including Sheares Bridge Marina Bay Sands and the Formula 1 street circuit.

Lacap gears up for the upcoming T100 in Singapore alongside her fellow Pinoys.

To mark the event’s fifth anniversary, athletes returning for their third or fifth year will receive special gifts, including 45-year-old Makarand Tawate, who has participated in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

“Taking part in the Singapore T100 has been a special part of this journey over the past five years. It helped me gain some confidence with shorter formats like short duathlon and long duathlon. It started as a dream( to do a triathlon), reading about triathlons in the newspapers about 15 years back but somehow missing out due to my work schedule. T100 has helped me shape that dream. In 2027, I hope to fulfil that dream by completing the full 100km distance. It is a goal that means a great deal to me, and I am excited about the opportunity to push my limits and see how far I can go.”

Speaking ahead of this year’s event PTO CEO Sam Renouf said: “We are incredibly pleased and excited to be returning to the iconic setting of Singapore and Marina Bay for our fifth event. So we wanted to thank and reward those who have been along this journey with us from our very first Singapore T100 in 2023.”

“Each participant matters to the PTO and we champion every triathlete, from first-timers to Olympic and World Champions. Makarand and Bless’ story are inspirational and great examples of the transformative impact our sport can have.”

“One of the interesting things we’re seeing at the moment is a huge growth in mass participation sports, which reflects the changing habits of sports fans more generally, who want to do more than watch from the sidelines and are seeking active and immersive ways to become part of the experience. It underlines the importance of us introducing a powerful brand for our new world tour, with a clear intention to simplify and grow the sport.”

The different amateur races available to participate include: the 100km (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run), Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run), Long Duathlon (9km run, 64km bike, 9km run), Standard Duathlon (6km run, 32km bike, 3km run), and Youth Aquathlon (400m swim, 3km run). As well as those individual races, there are also relays in the 100km, Sprint and Standard Duathlon distances, to encourage everyone to get involved.
