Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) President Ana Pista, APR, has been named Asia’s Modern Hero in “Transformative Public Relations Leadership,” honoring her decades-long work to raise communications standards, integrate artificial intelligence, and expand professional opportunities for public relations across the country.
Pista accepted the honor during the Asia’s Modern Hero Awards 2026 held on September 25 at Okada Manila. Organized by the Golden Icons Foundation, the annual event recognizes individuals and organizations for leadership, service, innovation, professional excellence, and contributions to society.
The award highlights Pista’s presidency at PRSP, where she is driving the Philippine PR Roadmap 2030. Under her leadership, the Society is expanding PR opportunities outside Metro Manila, having established its first regional network for Visayas in Cebu in July. PRSP is scheduled to return to Cebu on October 14, while its regional network for Mindanao will formally launch in November.
“Transformation is not simply about adopting what is new. It is about building a profession that is stronger, more connected, more ethical, and more prepared for what comes next,” Pista said.

Pista’s recognition reflects a career built on pioneering industry firsts and driving practical innovation. Beyond the regional expansion of PRSP, she co-founded the AI Centre of Excellence (ACE) in 2025 to guide communicators on applying artificial intelligence responsibly within strategic workflows.
Her leadership has also transformed public relations on the international stage, bringing Philippine PR to global prominence. This international impact was highlighted in Brussels, where she was named Strategic Communication Leader of the Year at the inaugural Strategic Global Awards in April 2026. She also previously served as the first director of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management.
These milestones build on her long-standing work as founder of Ardent Communications, which she launched in 1997 and grew into a full-service integrated communications agency over nearly three decades.

For Pista, the award comes at a point when her work at PRSP focuses more on building structures that last beyond her term. The Philippine PR Roadmap 2030 addresses the need to create stronger pathways between education and employment while expanding professional opportunities beyond Metro Manila.
To achieve this, PRSP has identified seven interconnected areas for development: professional standards and accreditation, continuing learning, industry economics, strategic recognition, ethics and digital governance, education-to-employment pathways, and regional networks.
As part of these priority areas, PRSP is rolling out the PRSP Academy, digital updates, and a dedicated Job and Internship Hub. She also contributed to a joint study with San Beda University to align academic programs with actual industry needs, ensuring emerging practitioners in public relations enter the field with practical skills.
“If there is one thing I hope this recognition can do, it is to remind us that the future of public relations is something we build together,” Pista said. “We have to raise the standards, invest in our people, strengthen our institutions, and take greater responsibility for the stories we help shape.”
She added that communicators must move beyond simply reacting to narratives and instead help steward them responsibly.
“And we have to professionalize the profession of public relations,” she said.
