The Malayan Insurance Co. Inc. (Malayan Insurance) has been named the country’s “Most Sustainable and Liveable Insurance Company” during the 8th Nation Builders and Mosliv Awards held at Okada Manila in Paranaque City.
The recognition was bestowed by Sustainability Standards Inc., an organization that promotes sustainability and environmental stewardship worldwide. The institution launches innovative projects and initiatives centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to encourage their integration into industries and communities and ultimately leading to sustainable development.
Malayan Insurance Anthony Louis Guanzon, Chief Marketing Officer, attested that the insurer is a corporate citizen for sustainable development.
“By embedding sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in our operations, we were able to impact communities and individuals, as well as inspire compassionate and proactive individuals who are in turn willing to volunteer and contribute,” he said.
This was achieved by integrating its CSR framework with its GameChangers program encouraging employees to identify, collaborate on, and provide practical solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The insurer targeted SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 4 (quality education), and SDG 10 (reduced inequality).
As an example, he/she shared an outreach program involving sick children and single mothers at the Missionaries of Charity-Home of Love in Antipolo. The Claims Division staff of Malayan Insurance conducted educational learning sessions for children, engaged in recreational games and activities, and provided food and living essentials to residents, caregivers, and nuns.
Another successful employee-led project was the renovation of the roof and ceiling of the Basic Education and Curriculum building of Wenceslao Trinidad Memorial National High School in Batangas, in collaboration with WorldVision.
